Technical Visit to Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant

The H.K.U. Engineering Alumni Association (H.K.U.E.A.A.) is going to hold a technical visit to Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant (TKODP).

The project provides the first stage of the seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis (RO) at Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Area 137. The plant has a water production capacity of 135,000 cubic metres (m3) per day with provision for future expansion to the ultimate water production capacity of up to 270,000 m3 per day.

The key components of the project revolve around the development and establishment of a reserved site in TKO Area 137. This involves designing and constructing a desalination plant that utilizes RO technology for water treatment. Additionally, the project incorporates an energy recovery device and turbine to optimize energy usage. The construction process involved the use of tunnel boring machines (TBM) and marine works for the intake and outfall structures. Off-site construction methods such as Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), and Modular Integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MiMEP) were adopted for effective and efficient construction practices. Overall, these key components aim to ensure the successful implementation and execution of the project.
