On 16th July 2024, the H.K.U. Alumni Association (HKUEAA) hosted another inspiring and insightful Distinguished Talk and Dinner. This successful event was well-attended by over 70 HKUEAA members and guests.
The esteemed speaker for the Distinguished Talk was Ir Michael Fong Hok-sing, JP, Director of Civil Engineering and Development of the HKSAR Government. Ir Fong gave a fascinating presentation titled "Northern Metropolis and Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands". He provided valuable insights into the two mega infrastructure projects being spearheaded by the Civil Engineering and Development Department to support Hong Kong's long-term housing, social and economic development.
Ir Fong discussed how the Northern Metropolis and Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands projects will collectively provide over 30,000 hectares of land to accommodate around 3 million residents and create more than 500,000 jobs. He also explained the sustainable development strategies and smart facilities being incorporated to create livable and resilient new communities that are well-integrated with the Greater Bay Area. Participants found Ir Fong's talk to be both informative and inspiring.
After the stimulating talk, attendees enjoyed a delicious Chinese dinner at the prestigious Queen's College Old Boys' Association clubhouse. The night provided an excellent opportunity for alumni to network and exchange ideas in a relaxed setting.
The event was a great success in bringing together HKUEAA members from different alumni years to learn from an esteemed speaker and industry leader. HKUEAA looks forward to hosting more Distinguished Talks and Dinners to continue fostering engagement and knowledge-sharing among members.
