I · PARK1, being the first advanced incinerator for municipal solid waste (MSW) in Hong Kong, will have a design treatment capacity of 3,000 tonnes of MSW each day. It will adopt advanced incineration as the core treatment technology as well as a demonstration scale mechanical sorting and recycling facility for recovery of useful resources from the mixed MSW. The energy recovered from the incineration process will be turned into electricity. The surplus electricity sufficient for the use of 100,000 households will be exported to the power grid at South Lantau via a submarine cable.
Major works comprise reclamation of about 16 hectares (including the area of seawalls and breakwaters) to form an artificial island near Shek Kwu Chau (SKC) facing the South China Sea and related marine works by a series of pioneering construction methods, such as deep cement mixing (DCM) for marine ground treatment, seawall and breakwater construction with precast caissons, rolling surcharge method, and the adoption of floating batching plant; and construction of huge MSW incineration units (each of about 6,000 tonnes with the height of over 50m) and flue gas cleaning units by modular integrated construction (MiC) method (https://www.eeb.gov.hk/en/see_blog/blog20230303.html).
This mega-project, involving engineering knowledge and techniques in multi-disciplines, is now under full-swing. If you don’t want to miss the chance to have a closer look at the construction details, physically step on this newly reclaimed land, and witness these super MiC “Bricks”, please register online at the following link by 06 December 2023: https://forms.gle/vgr37eczLnDLaHkFA
