The Technical Visit to In-situ Reprovisioning of the Shatin Water Treatment Works (South Works) was successfully held on 11 November 2023.
The project is to increase the treatment capacity of the South Works of Sha Tin water treatment works from 364 000 cubic metres per day to 550 000 cubic metres per day to meet the anticipated increase in fresh water demand due to progressive implementation of new public and private housing developments and to reprovision the aged water treatment facilities of the South Works which were commissioned in 1964.
The visit started off with the scope of expansion works and the introduction of water treatment process being adopted in the treatment works. The organizer also introduced technologies adopted in this project such as the use of digitized tracking system to monitor the trip ticket system for fill disposal and the use of Smart Site Safety System to monitor site safety including the use of Smart Safety Helmet and Watch for detection of workers’ conditions and AI navigation system to send out alerts to workers entering into a danger zone.
After an in-depth explanation of the project background, participants got the chance to visit the construction site including pipe pile lateral support system and the superstructure works of the pumping station and other treatment processing units.
Taking this opportunity, we would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Water Supplies Department, AECOM Asia Company Limited and ATAL-CW-MH Joint Venture to receive us at the visit. We look forward to seeing you all at the coming HKUEAA events!
