We are excited to announce the resounding success of the HKUEAA 50th Anniversary Overseas Tour to the UK, which took place from 1 to 8 June, 2025. Participants provided excellent feedback, highlighting the enriching experiences throughout the journey. The tour theme, “A Study for a Livable and Sustainable Future,” focused on exploring advanced technologies and policies aimed at fostering sustainability and environmental responsibility. 🌱💡

During the technical visit to the Institution of Engineering and Technology, our delegates explored the evolution of the UK decarbonization strategy, the crucial role of skilled engineers in achieving clean energy targets, and the significance of community engagement and education in making informed choices about technology and sustainability. A panel discussion encouraged knowledge sharing between representatives from Hong Kong and the UK on decarbonization challenges, reinforcing the idea that effective engineering solutions depend on public engagement and education. 🤝🔧

Insights shared by UK Power Networks (UKPN) inspired our alumni and students, emphasizing the vital role of innovation in distribution system planning to achieve carbon net-zero targets. Engaging presentations and discussions showcased practical tools like the LAEP+ planning tool, underscoring UKPN's leadership in supporting local authorities with decarbonization efforts. This experience provided reference for our delegates to consider implementing similar innovative strategies in their future endeavours. ⚡🌐

Our delegates gained valuable insights from research presentations and spinout companies at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction. This exposure to cutting-edge technology in civil engineering infrastructure equipped our delegates with a deeper understanding of innovative solutions that can help build a more resilient and sustainable future. 🏗️🔍

Another memorable aspect of the tour was our visit to Oxford Saïd Business School, where our delegates attended an interactive workshop on mega-project management. This workshop with case study allowed them to grasp the key elements essential for project success, fostering valuable skills in collaboration, leadership, and strategic decision-making that they can apply in the future. 📊🤓

The Organizing Committee extends heartfelt thanks to all participants for contributing to this meaningful journey, particularly the head of delegation Ir Michael FONG, Vice-President (Event & Programme), and Special Advisor Ir Paul POON. We also express our sincere gratitude to the hosts and supporting organizations that made this tour possible. We look forward to welcoming you on future tours! 🙏🎉
